Electronic Filing of Patents: The USPTO’s Electronic Filing System (EFS) is, unsurprisingly (this is the government after all) incredibly difficult to use. Hopefully, the PTO will improve the EFS filing system in the future. In the meantime, the USPTO Direct service, which lets a practitioner or applicant view the status of pending applications online, is very useful, and not nearly as complicated to set up.
